Relax in peace, party when you choose
It doesn’t matter whether you’re single, married or have your whole family in tow, there are enough attractions to fill weeks of time here. Further into the site we’ll tell you more about activities and entertainment too.
Whilst you’re away and don’t have anywhere important to be, it’s nice to take the day at your leisure.
You can relax in the sunshine or enjoy the serenity of the town under the shade of the Puig Campana mountain. There are plenty of quiet spots on the beach at La Cala if you want to sunbathe after a swim.
If you prefer to take advantage of the cooler temperature and be more active earlier in the day, you might want to take a walk or head to the beach for a variety of workshops or water sports.
The afternoons are a good time to head out to see the sights, hang out on the beach or in a café. If you have kids, you must take them to Terra Natura and Terra Mítica, two major theme parks on the Costa Blanca.
Beaches for kids, for sports and for the disabled
The beach at La Cala has had a blue flag for decades; the water is shallow and it’s one of the quietest in the area so it’s ideal for kids to play and swim, safely within your sight.
The beach also hosts daily workshops, including aqua aerobics, volleyball, arts and crafts; an excellent chance to pick up something new.
If you’re an active sports fan, take a walk along the coast to Poniente beach where in addition to a range of water sports, the beach hosts an international volleyball tournament every summer.
Anyone, regardless of mobility, can enjoy the ocean at Benidorm’s Levante beach. This was one of the first beaches of its kind and features ramps, specially adapted wheelchairs and people on hand to assist disabled visitors.
If you fancy a change of scene, then there are now several beaches along the Costa Blanca that are accessible for the disabled, you can find out more from the Tourist Office, details below.
Family Fun
Even kids sometimes get bored of the beach. So it’s useful to have some other plans ready just in case. How about swimming with sharks?
No, it’s not a joke. Terra Natura is a themed park, zoo and unusual water park just outside of Benidorm where the brave can go for a safe swim with sharks, alongside friendly Rays and other sea life.
If you don’t fancy that, there are hydrotherapy pools and themed areas. Big kids go hurtling down huge water slides and smaller ones can play in water castles and shallow pools.
Boat trips, dolphin watching, mountain hikes and fiestas will also keep the kids entertained in Finestrat, but you can’t go wrong with a theme park!
Terra Mítica, practically next door to Terra Natura, has several thrilling rides and games including the Pyramid of Terror and Warrior of Dawn.
Due to sunny days and long nights it’s able to stay open late so you can often avoid queues altogether by coming at the end of the day.
Natural Attractions
Boat trips on the ocean, kilometers of beach and scenic walks are all fantastic ways to take in the dramatic landscape around Finestrat.
If your fitness allows it, it’s essential to climb Puig Campana. At 1400 metres, it’s one of the highest points in the whole region and provides inspiring views of the entire coastline and fertile land that surrounds it.
A more relaxed method of transport is by boat; there are daily boat trips from Benidorm to nearby colourful Calpe, coastal towns and to Peacock Island.
You’ll be disappointed if you forget your camera because the scenery viewed from the boats is amazing and on any of the trips it is possible that you may see dolphins.
Essential Culture
There’s enough to satisfy an interest in history and culture all year round.
Mirador del Castell, an ancient Moorish castle is an important historical site and you’ll find several more across the Costa Blanca, including archaeological remains dating back to Roman times.
You should also take some time to visit the beautiful square, Plaza Torreta, in the Old Town where you can visit the church of Iglesia Parroquial.
The Casa de Cultura holds concerts, theatrical productions and dance events all through the year; you can get full details of the current season from the Tourist Office.
Finally, if you’ve a sweet tooth, don’t miss the Chocolate Museum at nearby Villajoyosa.
